"The Inexhaustible Variety of Life"
"The beauty of the 'American Experience' is that it’s an awe-inspiring spectrum of the different dreams and ideas and failures of countless individual minds that all share one link: the journey to understand oneself and reach one’s goals. Nothing will ever be exactly the same, and it’s breathtaking to behold this ever-moving, ever-changing, yet somehow constant phenomenon. The diversity is what makes it so fascinating, and ultimately what ties it all together."

I believe that this quote takes the idea of "focusing on the journey" to the next level by explaining how this can be applied to each individual's American Experience. Each person will experience something entirely different, even if its themes and ideas are basically the same. And this is one reason why the focus on the journey is so important: it will teach something that cannot be learned from anyone or anything else. Because what one person will experience is entirely different than what another will, they cannot be compared, and cannot be said to have the same overall purpose or goal. It is an, "ever-changing, yet somehow constant phenomenon"; each person understands it differently and yet the basic idea remains the same. The American Experience is always about the journey, but what that journey is is up to the traveler.
